About Melanie Gilbreath- Romance Author

Hello and Welcome to my site! My name is Melanie Gilbreath and as you can most likely tell by the title above, I write stories. I have always had a vivid imagination, but at the grand age of sixteen my best friend at the time and I began writing an ongoing and extremely wishful account of two girls and their romance with ( and I blush to admit this) two of the members of that ever so popular 80s band Duran Duran. That oh, so rich fantasy world came to crashing down when my mother discovered our manuscript and gave me a lecture that still manages to turn my ears red when I think on it. Thus scarred by mother, my inspiration fairy retreated to under the bed and drowned her sorrows with my dads bottle of Southern Comfort. Several years later my brother gave me an old computer of his and I discovered that I have no talent for computer games and, not having internet, thought what can I do with this piece of crap? Out if despertion I unpacked my inspiration fairy, dragged her to a twelve step program and set to writing again. Early attempts were sadly, pitiful. Resulting in a manuscript I like to call Bella's World Believe me when I tell you; it is horrible. I keep it around to remind me that no matter how badly I think I write, I could be worse. I kept plugging away and, when I did get internet access, I landed on a RPG, fan fiction loop. This is where I began to hone my skills as a writer, and also acquired the most diverse and wonderful writing group a woman could hope to have. Soon our group, now called the Bitch Mafia, began to take a more serious approach to our writing. We took classes and read books and articles. Then came the National Novel Writing Month. Wow what a challenge, to write 50,000 words in one month. We all plunged right in and from that challenge, came my first real novel, Isabella in Pearls. And that, as they say, is how it all started. I hope you enjoy the site and my writing. I welcome all questions, comments and complaints, so drop me a line if you like! Thanks again! Melanie Gilbreath
How The Meme came to be. It is really an unremarkable story. My nephew Cody, who was three at the time, insisted on calling me Auntie Melty. This I could not live with as Auntie Melty sounds like a weird sort of sandwich. I will admit, I complained bitterly and thus Auntie Meme was born. The name has stuck and now phrases like "No one likes an angry Meme" And "This does not make The Meme happy. "are all the rage amongst the members of the Bitch Mafia.
